Either way, it's silly to find an "American" car. You want an American muscle Camaro/Firebird? You gotta goto Canada to find its assembly plant.
America did this to itself. The UAW has destroyed the American car companies. Can't wait to see Toyota over-take GM for the #1 spot.
Sorry, i added the X5 plants % into the over all percent in my previous post.
But the X5 plant might not be around much longer any ways, so well see....

start rant
don't even get me started on the UAW. What a piece of SH!T they are!!! If you've got a problem with the big 3's quality, it's 90% UAW and 10% company. Those lazy [censored] are useless bums. Although I'm generalizing (there are some very responsible UAW workers), the fact remains that the UAW is doing more harm to the workers than good. We'll see how happy the employees are when the UAW has ran the big 3 into the ground. I work for a supplier and have worked for one of the big 3 in the past, so I'm coming from experience.
I've seen UAW line workers complain about having to walk ten paces at their post when another guy only has to walk 9 , and in the end what does the big 3 do... they go back to the supplier and tell them to redesign the part (very expensive). I could tell of many more such instances, but ya'll get the point.
end rant

Want American? Check the VIN's first digit. Pretty sure 1 and 4 are for America. J is for Japan, pretty sure G is Germany, 3 Is Mexico I believe mean the automobile was manufactured in America. My Contour was made in Mexico Also to the best of my knowledge, the Ford 500 Is manufactured in IL now

Tell your sister free trade works and to buy the car she likes most; to hell with who made it, where the parts came from or the name that gets stamped on it.

If you want an all American car then have the white folks build you a car from scrap just like Jesse James does his motorcycles on Discovery. Its all possible if you got the money.

There's not one car that has 100% US made parts, and assembly.
Why? Because thew UAW is so freakin' expensive, that it forces car-makers to buy parts from overseas to offeset the high labor costs that the UAW demands for it's workers.
If you were to buy a car that was made entirely with UAW/US made parts and assembled enitrely by the UAW, it'd make something like a Cavalier cost the same as a god damned Cadillac CTS!
Amen!

I recall the domestic content on my Mystique was stated at 70% on the window sticker (which I think is the minimum USA content to be considered a domestic car). My car came with Goodyear tires, which I traded out for Michelins long ago. So considering that the Michelin tires are not domestic, have I tipped the balance of "domestic content" in my car to less than 70%, thereby making it officially an imported car?
