I remember the old "Quality job 1" phrase. What happened?

Just got this week's "Business Week" in the mail. MAJOR and detailed article about how Ford has now dropped into LAST PLACE among the major seven automakers for quality.

More quality problems per vehicle than any other manufacturer (even aside from Tire fiasco issue).

Higher cost in recall and quality problems than any other manufacturer. (And would be WITHOUT the Firestone / Explorer issue).

Lost more market share this past year than any other major auto manufacturer.

Hey Ford, is anyone home? Helllloooo ooooo!

I guess the porch light is on but no one is home. frown

I have been a Ford guy pretty much since I started driving (2nd car was a 66 fairlane) Mostly because I liked the cars...I live in a GM town...engine/powertrain plant here, and close by is Delphi...where they make radiators for GM. Anyway, it is hard enough for someone to be a Ford fan around here without this kinda stuff. Like the F150's and their crash tests...I will always be a Ford guy...because around here they are "different" Not your every run of the mill Chevelle, cavalier etc etc. I just wish they would get their heads outta their a$$ and fix their problems.... Anyway, dont know if I made any sense...it just pisses me off...

...i too am a "ford man"....but unfortunately ford makes it so tough on us to continue to be one. the only new car that appeals to me is the lightning and after the bullsh*t i went through with my svt, i don't know if i will buy ford again...of course i am saying this now, but within the next 2 years i will be getting another new car and i am definately leaning towards a truck (i'm a big guy) i will put very serious consideration in buying another ford..... confused

For so long it seemed that no matter how weak Ford was, they had to be ahead of GM and Chrysler... GM usually seems to define everything that is wrong with how giant companies work. But if this is true, I guess my idea that Ford was a little better may be outdated.

I'd like to see how they measured "quality". Consumer Reports surveys still put Ford slightly above GM and Chrysler, though their lead is slipping.

Also, I don't know how they can say Ford lost market share. GM and Chrysler lost a larger percentage of their sales than Ford in the 12 month comparo.

I'd REALLY like to see this article and question its premises

I've always owned Fords also, but they just don't seem to care anymore. I've been through four water pumps. I wrote Ford about it and they basically gave me a reply of "we don't care." What kills me is they know what they are doing. Why has the water pump mysteriously been redesigned? I've also been through a spring (as usual), a power steering pump and an ATX shifter.

My dad stopped buying Fords about two years ago because of it. He was a Ford customer since the 60's. Me, well after this car I'll definitely give Ford one more try.
