The definition of ignorant is someone who ignores the facts = you.

Insult, perhaps in your eyes, but it's more of a flaw in your case. Argue with dyno results all you want, you won't magically change the numbers.

I can argue a similar point as you, why bother putting a better y-pipe on the car and keeping a stock exhaust?

Just because someone choose to do the cheapest and easiest exhaust mod first, does not mean it's pointless.

Prove to me that changing the resonator, then the rear mufflers, then the y-pipe on the SVT is not an ideal mod progression, as that it the most common path most people make, only realizing gains the through each step.

Thanks Dan. I respect your experience withe the Contour, it is a new car to me (although I did drive one breifly in 2000 as an Auditor for FoMoCo.)

I will take your word for it that the resonator swap can actually realize power.

My past experience with project cars (one of which was in Sport Compact Car in the mid ninties) consists of Japanese 4 cylinders. In those cars, cat back systems did not generally produce power gains.

Probably not..
#1 Worst would be the stock exhaust manifolds with precats/short "log style" runners/awful crush L bent "elbo"
#2 the forward "crush" Y-pipe
#3 resonator or main cat (close)

#5 Rear mufflers (there are 2 so that while they are restrictive, they each get only half the flow)
#6 Rear Y or the 2.25" diameter itself which may slow flow after 1-6 are taken care of.

However, the flow velocity reduction is cumulative. Improving any aspect above helps exhaust velocity (and power) even if other restrictions remain...if not, adding a catback or Y-pipe to with stock manifolds would never add power and they clearly do (about 10+ FWHP for both with stock manifolds).

I understand very well, Fluid Dynamics was a major part of my Engineering degree.

This is key:

Calgary..I see your car and mine "know" each other. Your's was exactly 9 cars ahead of mine in the Kansas City assembly line! Is it green by chance?

LOL, fluid dynamics, although clearly the theoretical crux of this argument, is not in fact where the lack of understanding seemed to lie. And I "argue" very well, as this was a major part of my second(law)degree...muwhahahaha...

Anyway I agree that Dan's argument has probably alot to do with the correct explanation...

Nope, the car is black with a midnight interior... I'll tell her "Hi" from yours after work, LOL.

The title of this thread was poorly worded.

For someone (many people) on this site, spending $700 on a catback exhaust or $300 on a y-pipe is not feasible.

So spending under $100 to remove one of the most restrictive parts of the exhaust to provide a little increase in power and enhanced sound is worth it.

There have been many who have removed the resonator and and replaced it with something like a Magnaflow and very happy.

Your statement is an opinion on "worth" and "value" - nothing that can be proven. Just because you don't think it's worth it doesn't mean it's not worth it to many others.

Statements like this wont be tolerated from you in future posts.

how to succeed in Duratec Performance section:
1. Register.
2. Make 10-20 points so you don't look like a complete troll.
3. Pick the most popular performance mod.
4. Word a subject in the most arrogant manner to attract attention.
5. Word your first post like you know something on the subject. It's important to to have no hard numbers to prove your point.
6. Don't listen and play hardball. Twist the matter here and there to up the number of posts to attract even more attention.
7. Demon, Dan, Stazi, and Pete will be awed by you enough to comment on the subject which is otherwise known as dead and buried.
