as for finding a tire, go to tirerack and use the desision guide, and pick what brands you like and the tire type, then look for specific contour owner reviews, i say look for specific reviews since many people don't make wise picks for tires on the car, they get a tire and expect what they are not out of the tire
My girlfriend had a set of G009s put on her Focus about 2 months ago and then she traded it in a week ago for an Explorer, so I will never know how those are in the snow...
I did use the Tirerack reviews to choose my last two sets of tires, but after both wore too quickly, it's hard to even go by those. The ratings on the Sport A2s were great a year ago...but if you look at them now, they're flooded with people complaining about tread wear...it takes time for these reports to come through.
As for the ultra high performance...I was there with my Sport 5000s and for the money they handle nice but I drive 20,000 miles a year and need longer lasting, more practical tires.
