Hey guys. The other day I got a SS sho shop y -pipe installed just 2 days after the mystery mod. Well my car is loud.. The mystery mod did a great job of giving me more modrange power. Then I got teh y-pipe (catless) and my car sounds deeper and feels better 0-60. I dont know about the y-pipe giving me higher end power 100> but it does a help. With an intake, pre-cats gone, Sho shop y-pipe, main cat gone and 2 mufflers....Do you think my car could use the SAFC? Would I be rich or lean? Also has anyone done the mystery mod and not gotten a CEL? Thanks, joe ps. For somereason I hear a turbo sound (whoosh) when I hit 3-5 k.I dont know if its coming from my exhuast or my intake? I dont think its a leak becuase wouldnt it make a really loud rasp for the air that doesnt get (baffled).
Anyideas?

You are guaranteed to get a CEL with the mystery mod. The test that fails is the cat monitor test, and it does not run very often, but once it does, bam, CEL.

The CEL won't come on immediately. It will not come on until the cat monitor runs. The cat monitor is a program in the PCM that compares the readings of the front and rear O2 sensors, but it doesn't do it continuously. The cat monitor is the last monitor to run and certain driving conditions must be met first. It may not come on for a couple of hours or it may take a few weeks.
So if your car is a 96 or newer so that it has OBD II, the CEL will come on, it just may take a while. If your car is a 98 so that it does not have OBD II, the CEL will not come on.

After performing a mystery mod, installing MIL eliminators on the O2 sensors that are downstream of (after) what used to be the pre-cats should eliminate a CEL, Right?

Wondering if you could tell me what a mystery mod is and what a CEL is.  sorry I don't know the lingo but would like to find out. Thanks.

Mystery mod = gutting the precats located in the stock exhaust manifolds. It is illegal to do this so for some reason people think they are foolong everyone when they say "Mystery Mod."

CEL = Check Engine Light Its' not illegal to gut your cats or precats. It is illegal for a shop to doit though.
