Ok...The car had CEL's for O2 sensors and the cat. Replaced all these items. Replace plug wires as well. The CEL comes back and here is the read out:

0171: Bank 1 Too Lean
0430:Catalyst system for Bank 2 below thresh hold
0103:Oxygen sensor for bank 1 too slow
0420:Catalyst system for Bank 1 below thresh hold
1131:Lack of HO2S switch indicated lean
0174:Bank 2 too lean

After explaing to the guy at autozone everything that had been replaced, I asked if the problem could simply be my precats. He had no idea what I was talking about, but suggested it was the MAF. Any takers? TIA...

Which O2 sensors did you replace? There are four of them.

Did you clear the computer after O2 sensor replacement? If not, those are possibly old codes...

Don't expect the drones at any autoparts store to know the exact terminology used on a specific make and model....

I would at least clean the MAF although it is not likely the problem.

since you are getting lean codes on both banks the general solution to this is to clean the maf

the O2 codes I beleive are for the upstream sensors, but rememeber the work togerther with the cat monitors or down stream sensors to determine if the cat is working correctly or not.

I would also reset the computer as it takes a few driving cycles to clear old codes

could this be at all related to when the car just shuts off unexplainably during driving sometimes?

What I just want to know is with everything that has been replaced and these codes still arising, is it the MAF, and if not what else could it be??

PO171, PO174 at the same times means vacuum/intake leak, it has been said close to a million times on here. Anyways spray starting fluid around the intake gaskets with the car running at idle, if the engine stumbles there is your leak, if it doesnt then you have vacuum leak.

As for P1131.....

The sensor is monitered by the PCM for switching.
The test fails when the sensor doesnt switch due to circuit or fuel exceeds a calibrated limit.
Causes the list is long brace yourself

Short to VPWR in harness or H02S
water in harness connector
open/shorted HO2s circuit
corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
damaged HO2S
damaged PCM
excessive fuel pressure
leaking/contained fuel injectors
leaking fuel pressure regulator
low fuel pressure
vapor recovery system
air leak after MAF
vacuum leaks
PCV system
improperly seated engine oil dipstick
leaking EGR valve gasket
stuck EGR valve
leaking diaphram or EVR
oil overfillled
cam timing
cylinder compression
exhaust leaks near or before the HO2S

Fianlly the slow response, I had a slow response once to, replaced the sensor and all was well.
Anyways basically the sensor took more than 1/100th of a second to switch from rich to lean or vice vesa.
