Yeah, I haven't found many people with them, but I found a 4x4 forum where people were doing this, and they said exactly what you said... viewability.
I hope I can make it last for a little while at least. My original plan was to buy a laptop that needed a little work and tear it apart and stuff it in there (might still do that... now I can buy a laptop that has a broken LCD but still puts out video thru the VGA).
I made sure it had a warranty (12 months) before purchase. If it can't handle being in my car for 12 months, then I'll go a different route.
