Hello, I was wondering if the Contour SVT will eventually become sort of a clasic car, and in some 10 years from now be worth a small fortune.
Mine is a Red-99 SVT and I am wondering if I should keep it, (store it) as I am ready to buy a new car.
Market value right now, is below $9,000.00 so I might as well keep it.
Let hear it from you out there about this topic!

It will probably be a classic something like the 60s Ford Falcon is now - underappreciated (and consequently not worth a fortune). Definitely will be something that causes people to ask "What's that?" ... not that they do that today anyway but as to monetary value I don't believe it will skyrocket.

Well, they already possess one determining factor - they're relatively rare.

in my opinion, the contour is defined to the general public as an economy car that your grandparents would drive. When you say contour, people think of a 4 cylinder automatic with 14 inch hubcaps. they think of it as a rental car or as a "government" economy fleet vehicle. With that said, we all know that the SVT is nowhere even close to that. When i bought my SE in 99, i had never even heard of the SVT model. I got an awesome deal on mine because it was a 5 speed and grandma's want automatics. I think the things that hurt this cars value now are things that will help make it stand out in the future. classic may be a stretch, but i think it will get a lot more respect in time

For one thing an old car is considered a 'classic' if it was built before 1949, according to the collector car market.

"Collector Car" status doesn't start until a car is over 25 years old. And even then it has to have desirability along with rarity.

If you want the SVT to be a "small fortune" in 10 years, but gold bars in the trunk and wait.

Or I can just fill it up at the Gas station, store it, and in 10 years time my 50 liters of premiun might be worth more than the car, that an other though!

I consider it to be along the same lines as 1st and 2nd gen SHO's. They're not worth sh!t.

the reason i believe our cars dont get respect. they're called contour. not a very masculine name. sounds like ur talking about a bra, not a car. when i told my friends (back in highschool) i was getting a ford contour they all laughed and thought it was gonna be gay and girly. since driving in it. they all love it. and mine's not even an svt. even now, people stare at my car all the time. because its so rare im assuming. i also keep my cars in very good conditon and because they r so rare, people are always asking me if its brand new. i like that, but i have to agree that the zetec autos are pretty gay... especially in the 98+ body style. they look chunky and cheap and they always seem to be missing a wheel cover dont they? either way, contours dont make the best first impression, they gain respect very easily
