I still think that lifetime bans from NBA games for the fans that physically exaserbated the fight (i.e., jumped into it without provocation or started slinging crap the first time around) and serious fines or legal recourse for those that started wantonly tossing things at the players like a bunch of dips**ts will send a STRONG message to anybody else that would think about trying this crap in the future.
As much as I get tired of seeing players blow their tops, I'm WAY past being tired of putting up with some of the retards that serve as fans for the sport.
I'm sure lawsuits/settlements and serious fines and game bans will take care of the players that involved themselves in the melee. Hell, maybe a player or two will get kicked out of the NBA due to this and send an even stronger message...
Tempers flare and things can get heated, but the absolute disgusting display of sportsmanship and fan behavior should have the NBA commission up in arms and ready to kick ass on both sides of this.
I'm thinking this would be the perfect time for examples to be made.

you can take the kid out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the kid. Just because these guys have money doesn't change their upbringing. If Dikembe mutombo put a hard foul on Tim Duncan, I dont think we would have seen an Arena clearing brawl. Yes, these guys should "mature" and behave better, but a lot of these guys could probably benefit from some sort of professional help.
Artest is obviously a bit crazy. Ben Wallace is a bad mothershutyourmouth and I wouldn't [censored] with him but artest did. Sometimes the attitude is what makes these guys so great on the court but it gets them into trouble off the court. The fans think they are untouchable because they are up in the seats but sometimes you need something like this to happen to bring people back down to earth

He should have never been there in the first place, but are you telling me this is the first time a fan has jumped on to the court, or field of any sport.
I agree with you. Artest should not have gone into the stands, and I said that in my other posts.
However, the statement above I have to disagree with. You're right fans always come on the playing field, court, etc. And they are dealt with very harshly. Take that Fan Man that flew in the ring in the Holyfield/Bowe fight. Got his tail WHOOPED! How about the guy and his kid that ran out of the stands and assaulted the Umpire. They got pummeled to. Same in this instance.
The difference here was that Artest clearly had gotten out of the stands by the time he engaged the guy(s) on the court. He didn't strike first and if you look at the vid, the first guy bucked at Artest like he was going to hit him. Artest then punched him in the face. What are you supposed to do, wait for the other guy to hit you? The second guy was still going after Artest when O'Neal clocked his ass. Two assailants, on the court being the aggressors. Seemed like just desserts to me.

Artest in the wrong? Bah! I would have done the same damn thing. The Detriot fans were chumps and they got what they deserve. A find alot of replies on the topic disturbing. Remind me to NEVER go anywhere with any of you. Hell, by the way you are talking you would run at the first sign of trouble.
Here is a example. We are sitting at Friday's chilling. Someone throws a cup at Pete. Guess what? Whomever threw that cup is going to get dealt with, BECAUSE I got my boys back. Maybe that is a concept some of you don't understand. That is why Jackson and O'neil did what they did.
If you look closely Jackson was trying to grab Artest and pull him back until that idiot threw his drink in Artest's face. Then Jackson promptly served him a 2 piece combo.

In THEORY Artest shoulda whooped dude. Cept he got the WRONG guy! The problem is he has A LOT more to loose than all of us combined. Financially speaking anyway. Especially since he got the wrong guy. That guy was just heckling. The dude that actually threw the cup was the one that had him around the head and sucker punched Artest.
Btw, Ant, you KNOW I'd have you and Pete's back if it went down like that!

lets change the subject for a second. How funny would it have been if when artest was standing toe to toe with a fan the fan drops his ass??? Talk about losing your reputation!!!!
That fight was crazy though. Rick Mahorn trying to break it up and then the big black dude throwing blows into guys heads from behind. That was crazy

I feel disgraced that Pistons fans would do this. I feel a little embarrased to be living in the same state. I hope this action doesn't give others the wrong impression of Pistons fans. As they say one apple ruins the entire bunch. I back up anyone that goes after someone that threw a drink on them. That kid definately deserved what he got. Yes, the foul was flagrant but it's part of the game. Let the ref call it and make your baskets. Pistons were just upset that they were getting beat and emotions were on edge. Took one spark to ignite the flame. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of dumba$$ you have to be to go after an NBA player. The kid that threw the drink looked like a tooth pick. Surprised he didn't get killed. I'm hoping someone will make a gif out of the kid getting laid out on the court. I bet he's feeling the hurt this morning.

And the League struck down with a mighty blow and said... "Thou shalt not kick thy fans asses for thee will feel the wrath of Mr. Stern." The league means business....

The league and the players union need to get together and suspend these guys without pay for the remainder of the season. The NBA should have put some mandatory suspension rule into effect after Vernon "Mad Max" Maxwell attacked that fan in Portland several years ago. They can beat the [censored] out of each other on the court, but a NBA player does not go into the stands after a fan. NO MATTER WHAT THE FAN SAYS OR THROWS! These guys have never been held accountable for thier behavior (All Pro sports). My wife works for a University Police Dept and even at the collegiate level the athletes get away with murder(DWI's, assaults ,rape, theft,etc.). And I'm not excusing the fan who threw the beer, he should have been arrested and banned from the facilty.
