This better exceed Spreewells 68 game suspension. Give Arpest time to collect on his cRAP album he wanted time off for to promote. He couldn't have paid for this publicty. The sick thing is, he'll be making cash from this in the end.

Who ever threw the chair should got to jail and attempt to avoid prison sex for a good long while!!!!!!!!!!!

The 1st fan was wrong to throw the beer...after Artest went into the stands all hell broke loose. I think the fans reacted the way any other fans would. A beer cup is not gonna break your nose, he probably broke that guys nose....bottom line Artest started the whole thing and it just spiralled out of control.

The fans are at fault for this - period.

Regardless of what happens on the field/court in any sport, fans should not be throwing things.

Throwing an object at an athlete that has adrenaline pumping through him is like poking a raging bull with a cattle prod.

Players scuffle and fight all the time - that does not entitle any fan to throw objects at the players.

A perfect example is baseball where many players have been hit by batteries being thrown by fans. That's assault and IMHO the player has a right to defend himself.

How about I come watch you work and start throwing stuff at you?

Was Aretst right in doing so? Maybe, maybe not - that's going to vary from person to person.

The whole situation is a shame.

Those basketball players are twice the sive of those fans and the first item thrown was a beer cup, bottom line he should not have done what he did. And I hope the first guy he beat down gets a mil for it. He was just watching, Artest got the wrong guy.

So because the basketball players are bigger it's ok to throw stuff at them?

Did you see the look on that guy's face? I couldn't not laugh!

Fans shouldn't be throwing stuff at players.

Players shouldn't go running into the stands after random fans who are mouthing off.

If I was sitting at work, in a workplace with surveilance, and someone throws something at me from the row of cubicles behind me I would probably get the police to go find who did it. Defending myself does not give me the right to go over to that row of cubicles and beat up some guy who's laughing at me for getting hit with a water bottle - as much of an ass as that guy might be.

I thought Jackson was even worse, he wasn't even involved in the original altercation or when Artest got hit by the cup, he just ran up and threw the first punch.

Bottom line, everyone involved was at fault.

Sums it up well:

I totally agree with your last point. Your opener, I do not. In my opinion, had the Artest/Wallace incident not occured there would have been nothing thrown.

I am by no means saying that some fans did not take it to the next level; they did so and everyone of them is guilty and should be punished. The AH Police are in the ESPN van. with all of the video tape, I think this will have far reaching fallout. Many will get what they deserve in court; let's hope the punishment fit the crimes -

Let's hope it also fit with the NBA Leadership with

Stopping to watch police report...

You can lump all drunk drivers together.

Because the community that these idiots belong to no longer deserves any respect or prestige. Only if Detroit loses its reputation as fans will there be proper punishment for those involved. I wouldn't be saying this if there were one, two, or even a half dozen fans that participated. But it seems many of the lower sections of the arena were involved. Either that or the 'few people' involved just happened to have hundreds of cups full of beer and pop available for them to throw at the players. It seemed like a free-for-all. Therefore, you have to blame the 'fans' in general.
