For 8 and a half years, I have been getting 31-33 MPG. When the odometer turned over 160,000, I checked a tank and found I had gotten 36. Next tank: 35.5. Third fillup 36.5. Still buying regular at Sam's or Wal-Mart. Car is running great (as always). Still hitting a few 80's on way to work each morning, then down to 68 when speedlimit changes to 60.
I guess the engine is just getting broken in good...ready for the next 150,000 miles.
Changed plugs and wires only once, at 150,000.
Strange (but I like this kind of strange)!

In the south it does. 70 degree weather versus 90 degree. 70 degree better.

yes cooler weather is better for the car but what I think he was getting at is the car makes more power in cooler weather and will burn more fuel at that point, at least I think so

edit: just had the thought, wouldn't the computer pull fuel if the intake temp was really high to prevent detonation? so if that is the case when the intake temp is lower more fuel can be added

have you changed type or grade of fuel? I know even with driving 90% highway miles with my car the milage went way down in the winter, but they add more of that chemical or oxgenate the gas more for better emmissions here in CT in the winter

I was getting 20-24 MPG ... but I checked it when I started going to college and it was at best 33 MPG!

A lot colder will prove opposite because the car will take longer to reach operating temperature so it will be in open loop for a longer period of time.

FWIW, I was gatting 16 MPG when I parked mine. Having to manually shift it and not having third probably didnt help much.

The way the weather affects MPG here in the South is based on A/C compressor usage. My Tour is a '96 GL 5-Speed. In the past, it got 31 average summer, and 32-33 in the winter. Of course the compressor runs on humid mornings like today as the windshield would fog up on vent setting.
Gonna just keep enjoying 36 MPG for as long as it lasts.
