146k miles before mine died and then I swapped in my mtx. Great thing is I gain a gear, gas milage, acceleration, and it shifts into any gear I want it to
ATX MTX swap, rear drum disc swap, drilled rotors, ported intake, optim throttle body, CAI, 7.5L MAF, adj. fuel regulator, longtube headers, underdrive pulley, no EGR, low inpedence bigger injectors, 2002 Focus Swap

Its not a good idea if you're experiencing problems on a high-mileage ATX that hasn't been flushed recently, if at all. If a flush is done as a part of regular maintenance and not after 80,000 miles of abuse, it is definitely a good thing (tm).

the dirt and grime that scores also seals and a flush may loosen that dirt revealing the scores that create small leaks within an ATX
