As we own an 87 Merkur XR4Ti, and 95 Mercury Mystique, and we owned an 88 Merkur Scorpio, the Mystique took the Scorpio's place it was an an bad accident.
I know both the good and bad about the Mystique/Contours. I'm not cracking on the car since we own both. I don't like the the door lock button location on the doors, don't like that it's FWD.
Now the Scorpio we loved the car to death compared to the Mystique, we never had an problems with the Scorpio at all.
The XR it has 175hp and 200tq for the stick, and the 2.5 DOHC in the Mystique has 170hp and 165tq. And I have never heard of a contour yet to get 600HP to the wheels like our 2.3 4 banger turbo, and we also have heritage behind us like somebody said before, just like you are based of the Mondeo. With people swaping 5.0 V8's, 4.6 SOHC and DOHC V8's, SHO engines, 3.8 SC V6's, some with the cossy 2.0 DOHC, people do Volvo head swaps on the 2.3 to get it closer to a cossy look alike and better power, and some people covertinng an XR to an all out cossy clone with every thing cossy on it.
