The speedo may go to 160, but it's off. 20 more hp will not net you a 15 mph increase in top speed, just doesn't add up. Yeah, about that JGTSC..... I guess we'll see if I'm able to go... It's getting closer and I need to buy Christmas presents....we'll see though.

Ok, so if im stock, and most cars stock can reach 143 and thats where they top out .
So your saying that that is accurate, but the fact that my speedo say 160 when i get to 160, now your saying its not accurate....How do you come to that conclusion????
Whats so diffent??? I can understand a 3-5 MPH error in the speedo, but that will still put me at 155 MPH.......Im running the same outer diamiter tires wheel combo, so i know the stock speedo is not off. Originaly i was running 215/50/16 now im running 215/45/17....take it to a website that messures total wheel size and it ends up being the same size. (whole diamiter wise)
Im not trying to start a pissing match...and i ahve been been in plenty of cars that have gon 160MPH (and Evo and STi being one of them, and a GTi....)
ANd i have a pretty good idea what 160 should feel like...and if that was not it, then i was damn close.
You may ahve a hard time believeing it...but my fiance has seen it, and i ahve seen it....and everyone in Norcal knows my faince...and she has never lied about stuff like this and nither have i.
I apologize for thread jacking, Johnny, if you have anny more commnets we should finish this in PMs .
Lupe
P.S. I hit my gear limiit in 5th gear before i hit fuel cut off....Did i also mention i ahve Zetec finial drive...not the 4.06 hich tops out at 143mph

Yeah, about that JGTSC..... I guess we'll see if I'm able to go... It's getting closer and I need to buy Christmas presents....we'll see though.
We'll account for the following.
#1: His tire size is .6% smaller than stock #2: Stock speedo is off by about 2% to begin with. #3: He has the Zetec final drive, which bumps his top speed before hitting rev limiter to about 163.
Factoring #1 nets us at 159.1mph Factoring #2 nets us at 155.9mph
Factory speed limit for BMW's is 155mph.
The drag coefficient of his vehicle is slightly less than stock. The SVT Contour has a lower drag efficient than a Cougar, which has a drag coefficient which limits the car to 143mph @ 170hp
A stock SVT Contour is limited to around 148-150mph due to the rev limiter more than the drag itself. It has more power than the Cougar by 30hp which is enough to break the 143mph drag limit.
A non-stock SVT Contour, lowered and adding a splitter will more than make up for a measly 5mph over a stock SVT @ 200hp at the fly.
Makes sense to me. So with 40-50 more HP than a Cougar (at LEAST, since we're talking a hybrid here and not just a straight 200hp 3L swap) and a taller gear with his final drive, I don't see why there's all this hullabaloo that he managed to go a measly 13-15 miles per hour faster than a Cougar which has a HIGHER drag coefficient and LESS horsepower.
I've hit 143 in my Cougar before, and it was stock.
Also keep in mind, if he was ahead of the Bimmer and the Bimmer couldn't catch up, he was at least going 155 or more, since the Bimmer speed governor tops them out at 155.
Let's not fight over stupid simple logical equations, people.

I'm not really trying to start anything here, I thought I made that clear... Upon the invite, I found a tire difference calculator and it shows a speedometer and odometer difference of -.62, as noted by NorCalCoug. At 160mph, that's only 1 mph, but the speedo isn't exactly perfect in the upper limits either, so I've read and heard. It also effectively changes the final drive from 4.11 to 4.08. Of course you don't have a 4.11, but you get the idea. I forgot to take into account a splitter and your final drive change, but I still don't believe you could reach an "actual" 160 mph on any given day. I'll do a little more indepth research and what not, just try to realize, both of you, that I'm not calling you a liar, just trying to explain to myself and others for learning reasons, that it might not be the way it seems. If you want to have a civilized conversation about it, we can start a new thread, but i'm not going to PM you as it's more of a learning experience than a pissing match for me.

No problem, as i was not trying to start a pissing match with you becasue i respect you, but trying to figure out your thinking into why you think that way....Now in my last post i did state theres about a 5mph diffrence...so, to settle things, and to get the advice of other CEgers, i will post in the dyno forum, and i do invite you to follow it and post where you feel like.
I do apologize if it came off as a pissing match as that was not my intent...and i invited you to PM me as to not clutter the thread, and to not get the clutter from other posters.
But i will post in the dyno forum...
again i do apologize, for any missunderstanding

I don't buy that for a second.
My 2.5L had more HP then your 3L and no way it could get close to 160mph actual speed. It may have crested 150 and "maybe" into the low 150's but I always estimated about 150mph as it's limit. (6mph over stock for 45-50 extra HP)
My 3L probably may make 160mph though it may be close.
"Without a dyno" my 3L has about 6mph trap speed on my 2.5L so the HP gain is very significant so add that into the equation.
I've had my 3L to ~6300rpm in 3rd which equates to roughly 148-150mph. It was pulling well but I don't know about gaining another 10+ mph...
You aren't going by the very inaccurate speedometer are you?
Don't you have different size tires and the Zetec gear as well??? That would throw it off exponentially and it's already notoriously over inflated above 70-80mph.

Intresting info demon, i posted in the dyno and thread forum....and yes i was going by the speedo...if you read my info in the dyno and thread forum, i started becasue i wanted to find out how accurate or inaccurate the speedo really is....and honestly, what speed to you think i really achived?
Personaly it felt like 160mph, as like i satted before i ahve been in many cars that have achived 160mph. Giving its not an accurate way of messurement, but its my only way. hence the reason for the topic in dyno and drag...

i was nearing fuel cut off if not already there...as soon as the speedo hit 160mph, i let off the throttle immediatly as i had never actually drive that fast.
