thanks, I wrote some of my attempts to interpret below, is this correct? Hope these questions aren't to obvious, I've been reading and often see these terms but not really sure excatly what they mean.

Causes
-open circuit in harness
Does this mean something like bad wiring but in the connectors or the PCM?

-sensor signal short to power

If it is this then that would require a new PCM? or just a reflash/remap? My mechanic said only Ford can do this. The one Ford dealer said they have to hook it up for 3 hours and then who knows - so I didn't want to do this.

-improper harness connector
Does this mean the plastic connection of the wires from the ECT sensor to the wire that runs to the PCM? I looked at it visually and it appears fine.

-damaged sensor
This would be a replacement of the ECT sensor, which for now I'm betting is not the cause as it is a new ECT sensor, though I understand new ones are sometimes bad.
