you can but chances are you are going to loose alot of power and performance, the IMRC is what opens the secondaries on the car and that is when you get th eboost of power around 4k rpm
someone else might be able to tell if it is the unit itself or something else
you should be able to find a unit at a junk yard and install it yourself
