Put carpet on the 2 ends. Glue it on first, and then trim it off once it's dry. I used carpet adhesive, but 3M spray wouled be better. Put glue on one side of your box and then lay it on the carpet. Simply keep putting glue on the box and roll it to the next side. Keep rolling it up like a sleeping bag

That's what I did on my home audio speakers backin 2000.

honestly, the cleanest way is to overbuild the box so the sides are essentially recessed and gapped. build an extra set of endcaps, carpet everything, and then press fit/screw the endcaps on.

my new idea on carpet is to just wrap the carpet around then glue the pieces on. ill find out if it works. the liquid nails on the inside should be ok to give a good seal and the extra can be cleaned away with the right stuff and it will look professional. thats the best i can come up with cuz my carpet never looks good.

I'd hate to bring up a dead post, but I know everyone is tired of my single simple question posts, and this relates to the topic anyway. How do you determine the tuning of a box with the whole port thing? i was trying to add a slot port to a box thats gonna be 3 cuft... but I dont know crap about how wide or long a slot port would have to be, and should it open on the front, side or what. Thanks.

Good tut, helped my box project alot

You can do it the hard way by actually doing the calculations on paper, but it is much easier to use a program like Unibox, WinISD, or whatever box building program you want to use.

Couple of rules of thumb to get an idea.

A bigger box requires shorter ports to get the same tuning freq and conversely, a smaller box will require longer ports. So, a 5 cu ft box may need a 16" long port for a given port area (area of the mouth of the port), while a 2 cu ft box might require 48" long ports.

The larger the opening (port area), the longer the port will be.

Smaller port areas require less length but increase port noise.

Round ports are always superior to slot ports with regards to performance. Whether the difference is audible or not is certainly debatable and I would suspect that it wouldn't be in most cases.

Flaring the ends of the ports can reduce port "chuffing"

Slot ports are tremendously easier to use in most car audio installs, as round ports are difficult to implement. Slot ports can be bent.

When using a slot port, try to keep the ratio of height to width as small as possible. a 24" x .5" port is not as good as 12x1 and much much worse than 4x3.

thanks.... im definately lost now.... i tried winISD and i think i keep putting the sub specs in wrong. ill look at the other program, but if that doesnt work ill just do a sealed one for the Tempest. the way I calculated it on paper, it should come out 3.4 cuft

This is what I want to add a port to. The box is currently 3.4cuft, if I'm wrong someone please correct me. But should I even add a port, or is it good how it is? Thanks

Remember... think Tempest powered by a Punch 500a2
