The early cup holders break easy and are expesive to replace. From Ford they are like $80 if you can get them and I see them on E-bay for used ones going for over $30. My son's 95 has been broken from almost day 1.

Nonnonononooo! Don't avoid Tim Hortons! Just dont carry it between your legs. (If you do that, you deserve a stupidity award, if not actually a Darwin )
But...
Actually, if you take the plastic insert out of the right cupholder, it is the absolute PERFECT size for the older SuperTim mugs (the red and white insulated ones) from Tim Hortons, right down to the notch for the cup handle. IMHO, this makes it the best cupholder ever, custom designed for my cup. I think it's the reason I like my tour so much!

Now, if only I didn't need arms like a gibbon to reach it while driving...

I use the right side holder sans rubber insert for a large coffee mug each morning. Works great that way without the insert. You kids will use it for hot cocoa or sup'm I suppose...

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

as if this thread wasn't long enough, but, i figured I'd also say that i stubled upon this cupholder problem. Except my SVT doesnt have the rubber inserts, just the hard black plastic bottoms. he other day i stuck a screw driver in the little slot on the drivers side cupholder and popped it out and yes you all are right it is deeper, except there is a corner of i think the transmision housing that prevents something from sitting perfectly flat in there (well on mine atleast) Didnt try prying out the passangers side.

Now that were on this weird topic...what is the little flip out plastic tab right beside the glove compartment latch? for Are you supposed to hang clothes there? If so maybe baby clothes of miget clothes....odd.

Reading about all these cup holder problems makes me glad I bought the $20 upgrade insert from Bill Jenkins when he had them about 4 years ago. Looks stock and works well.

Let's see.... Spills drink twice, and breaks cupholder to fix. OR... Spill drink once, and drink out of plastic bottles from now on.

I'd say that's good input! Who knows how many more people there are on here like you?!

I'm just trying to save their carpet.
