I think the reason they don't rust, is because the slots effectively clean the pad each time they come in contact. They are more expensive than regular replacement rotors, but well worth it. I have these on front and rear, coupled with satisfied pro pads and bendix pads up front. Couldn't be happier with my brakes! It is some reaction between the metal and the water, basically a light surface rust. If needed, before pictures, just take a short drive around the block or something, that is what I do.
