On US models of the V6 (Duratec) Contour/Mystique:
- There is a timing chain on the passenger side of the engine. You won't be able to see it without a lot of work; it runs in oil and is therefore well covered.
- There is a small belt on the driver's side of the engine that runs the water pump. You can see it by removing the black plastic cover on the front of the engine. The cover is held on with only a few small bolts. I recommend taking it off and looking around, just so you understand where everything is. This only takes a few minutes. Try it!
- And, of course, there is a large, easily visible serpentine belt on the passenger side of the engine, which runs all accessories except the water pump. This includes: alternator, A/C compressor and power steering pump. The timing chain is just "inside" of the serpentine belt (i.e., toward the center of the engine).
