There are a few wires that plug into the blinker switch in the steering wheel area. What you should do is get something with weight to press the brake pedal down. Then setup a chair behind the car and prop a mirror so you can move around wires until you see the lights come on.
This is a wire connection in my 98 that was killing my brake lights, but my center rear brake light would work. If you have a center rear window brake light and it is off as well, then you should look at the switch at the brake pedal.
Normally you can take a small knife and clean off the corrosion.
