Hi,

Well I have searched all the post and found a few answers.I have a problem with the transmission and wanted everyones advice. The car is hard to move backwards when warm but not cold. When It is warm it feels like you have the ebrake on when trying to back up.I also noticed it leaking from the main control cover gasket. So I know I am losing fluid and have filled it up.It shifts fine going into drive and shifts fine thru all forward gears.

I have read that it is possible the trans range sensor is making it move back like that.Would that be my problem? For all the ones that have replaced the main control cover gasket, how much has it ran you?I had my tranny rebuild 9 months ago. Thanks for all the help.

I think if I had my tranny rebuilt 9mnths ago...I would be asking questions to the rebuilder. Nobody wants to guess what your problem could be...and that is why nobody has responded. Having being just rebuilt such a short time ago, I would have the guy who rebuilt it answer those questions as you'll probably get a better answer.

I'd ask the shop that rebuilt your tranny!!! It could be the atx manual lever position sensor....Check you fluid level of course too. Where is it at on the dipstack when atx is cold? That valve body cover should not be leaking so soon. I'd take it in and have them replace it if it is under warranty.....which I would think it would be.

Well the valve body cover is shot.Thats why it was leaking while it was warm.I am glad i am getting rid of this pos soon. This car is horrible just like the tempo/topaz.This junker has cost me more to keep it runing than my escort has in 8 years that I owned it.Never buying ford ever again.big mistake.

If you want an easy to maintain vehicle that doesn't cost much to fix, get a 96-2001 crown victoria (or grand marquis or town car). Escorts are nice also, but most of them are about worn out.
