Failure rates don't seem to be all that bad, they just get more attention because they are 3L swaps. The failure rate on the 2.5L bearings was pretty good there for a while too. Think of it this way, the failure rate on a properly built 3L is a hell of a lot lower than any nitrous, turbo, or supercharged car on this forum. You also have people with 30K+ miles on their 3L engines. I had a trouble free 3L for two years until I turbo'd it without an intercooler and cracked two pistons.
