Does anyone know what it should cost for labor on a clutch replacement? I already have a different clutch and flywheel available for my 98.5 SVT. Dealer wants $1000 just to crack it open and confirm whats wrong with it plus ~$400 extra to do it. Talked to someone else and they wanted $850 for labor. Much better deal but still wondering if it's high. Thanks in advance for the insight.

That sounds about right. The going rate for a clutch on a front wheel drive car is 8 to 10 hours multiplied by the shop labor rate. Contours are harder than most front wheel drive cars.

It does sound more or less right. You might want to find someone who specializes in manual transmissions and ask them, not just a 'transmission shop' though as I've found they know little more than the basics outside of autos!
I must admit, in the past I've looked specifically for 'classic car' automotive mechanics. Hard to find, but usually more adept that the rest.

$600 did that include the clutch? If so that was amazing!
