HELP! I have a 1996 SE 2.5 ATX. I've just about exhausted my patience on this one. My blower motor is giving me fits. Here is the problem: power to the blower motor has failed at the under dash fuse panel. I have band-aided the problem with a small jumper wire.

Here is what I know about the problem and what I have done to attempt to fix it. Back in May of 2003 the blower speed selector switch failed. I replaced it with a new unit and had no issues for about 7 or 8 months. Suddenly the blower stopped working under all conditions. With a little investigation, I determined that the fuse was getting no power to it. I rigged a small jumper wire to the power feed side of the fuse to make it start working. I tried replacing the fuse panel, and this didn't help. I noticed while I was replacing the fuse panel that the heavy red wire that connects to the upper left hand corner of the fuse panel seems to have gotten very hot, hot enough that the connector looks melted slightly. Does this wire either feed the fan or the fan fuse? I have no schematic that has enough detail to show the internal connections in the fuse panel. No other electrical items seems to be affected.

I'd like to get this problem solved once and for all but I don't know what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas?

Since you have no speeds we know it's not the Blower Resister pack.

The new switch could have gone bad again?

Check the Relays & Fuses in the Engine Compartment Fuse Box.

There is a large feed wire from the interior fuse panel to the blower. It is red with two wires in it I think? These wires are bad about burning out and not allowing the blower to work.

However, you said that after jumping the wires it works so it's not this wire. And that would say it's something to do with the Engine Compartment Fuse Box.

I don't have the diagram information on your car so you might need to do some searching or buy a good book.

Does one of the two wires in the bundle with the heavy red wire feed power to the blower fuse? If so, I suspect this may be the source of my entire issue. As I said, the connector is kind of melted away and I could see this being the problem. Any comments on what these wires are anyone?

Wow, another melted wire going into the Fuse Panel! I had to replace my Fuse Panel with the same symptoms, and patch up some melted wire. Has been fine since then (about 8 months now).

Maybe we should call up Ford or something on this?? I still have mine in the Garage

I think I just fixed mine!(knock wood)I took C205 (the big red wire connector)loose from the fuse panel and bent the tab slightly to make it contact the spade in the fuse block better, put it back together, and it seems to be working fine.

I didn't have an issue with the relay socket (C2009). But I definitely had the melted connector at the red/green wire at connector C205 (the red wire, like in your picture). I think mine must have melted when my blower control switch failed back in May of 2003 and it just took a few months to give me any problems. I'm going to hit a salvage yard and try to get a connector from a wrecked 'tour to fix mine right.

Well, that's good news.

Rather than get a new connector, I just used some insulated female spade connectors.
