No. The filter would most likely implode as it could not pass air through it being saturated with water.
Also with the splash shields and tighter quarters it would be very unlikely a tremendous amount of water (read - enough to actually pass the filter, not just saturate it) would make it.
However the placement & hot air ingested is still a problem regardless of a shield blocking the fan swirl...
