That's not how it works. "225" is a notional section width--not a tread width. Tread width depends on tire brand, profile height, etc.

Also, you're looking at a 215/45 and a 225/45. The 225/45 will be taller, and will also sacrifice a bit in sidewall stability (vs the 215). Ultimate grip might be slightly better, with a compromise to steering response and final drive ratio.
