Don't get all caught up in a speaker's power handling figures. If you hear distortion, you're pushing the speaker beyond its safe limits and need to turn it down.

Ya i know, but if I plan on buying that beast HU (panasonic) I want speakers that will be able to handle ALL the power and not distort or blow. Wondering if the Crystals will handle it. On the other hand i dont want speakers with a rediculously high RMS and Max rating which will not be optimized by the power of the panasonic.

Basically I'm looking for a great sounding set of 4 5x7/6x8's w/ silk tweeter that will be optimized by the panasonic HU. speaker price range per pair = $150 or >

Eh... Do what you want. If spending another $140 for no/minimal gains in performance makes you happy, go for for it.

It seems you're more caught up in specifications than just buying quality, good-sounding equipment. I could easily fry some aftermarket speakers with a simple 25w by cranking gains, upping EQ's, turning on the bass boost/loud, and running some test tones. Does that mean the speakers have been "optimized"?

BTW, the Polks are nice speaks too. They're just overpriced, especially anything labeled Polk/MOMO.

A lot of people here seem to know some good speakers and subs that are cheap...i've never heard of these brands though. I don't know much about car audio, so I just went with the brands I have seen in top of the line installs. My polk/momo speakers retail for $199 a pair, but I got them for $150 a pair. I love my speakers, and don't really care if I could have gotten some lesser known good brand for less. I probably could have gotten jsut as good a sub for under $300, but I like opening my trunk and seeing a pretty aluminum eclipse sub. You hardcore audio guys will probably think I'm crazy.

my stryke av12 cost half that and is pretty much a modified eclipse sub, so there are deals to be had out there.

the kappa 5x7s have a higher rms rating of around 100watts with an external xover. u can find them around 75/pair on ebay

Those speakers are rated at RMS/Peak 40/80 though..I think the new Panasonic HU that is out now that I'm looking to buy (60RMS X 4 70MAX X 4) might blow these or distort them really bad at higher volumes. Dont know if these are a good choice.
