#1 low on fluid #2 parking brake set #3 a brake line snapped and grounded the thing on the master cylinder, which completes the circuit and lights the light on the dash

Add more fluid anyway. A visual check is deceptive.
If that fixes the BRAKE light, inspect (or have it done) your front and rear brakes for excessive wear and check for any leaks. That fluid went somewhere and you need to identify and correct the cause. Most commonly, it's just worn out pads or shoes.
