Some of the later Zetec 4 cylinder engines had VCT(variable cam timing) on some engines,Honda etc its a combined emission/performance feature on the Zetec in Contour it was added for emissions and the EGR system was deleted.Later Zetecs in Focus and UK Mondeo do not have VCT.
