Apparently somebody that someone in my family knows had a remote starter. They let it run for about 20 mins before leaving work to warm up the car. Apparenly one day they had some kind of oil leak and the engine seized.
I've not confirmed it, but it sure put me off of getting one. I must admit whenever I leave my car running on the colders days I lurk relatively nearby in the house just incase I hear something bad.




Not likely since most remote starters will shutoff the car after about 10 minutes of idling. Regardless, the problem is not the remote starter but failure to check the oil level on a regular basis.
