I have 115,000 miles on the SVT and just start her up, wait for the revs to drop below 1,000 and go. Same routine whether 100 degrees or 20 below (and try not to rev over 3k til normal temp). My 2¢ - if you need a car starter to avoid being too hot or too cold for a couple minutes, you've got bigger issues than just your car. Letting the car idle any longer than that just wastes gas and puts more unneeded exhaust in the air.

Yeah I know but I am usually too cheap to run the AC anyway. The woman does it on her car though

I heard a horror story ... haven't had it confirmed though ... about remote starts. Apparently somebody that someone in my family knows had a remote starter. They let it run for about 20 mins before leaving work to warm up the car. Apparenly one day they had some kind of oil leak and the engine seized. I've not confirmed it, but it sure put me off of getting one. I must admit whenever I leave my car running on the colders days I lurk relatively nearby in the house just incase I hear something bad.

I was just thinking the same thing about this guy and Contourfreak22. I can't enter a CEG Forum without seeing 5 of the 10 threads started by one of these guys.

it's always been that way. it goes on and stays on unless i either buckle up, or a minute passes. Whichever comes first. Doesn't the manual say that if the seat belt warning light stays on for more than like 8 seconds, to have your car checked out?

I start the car and wait for the idle to stabilize then drive off. By stabilize, I mean that it is running smoothly, even if the idle is still high. I have done this all of my driving lifem even when I lived in Montana and Wyoming. If it needs more than this to stabilize, it may be telling your that it needs attention. That could be worn plugs, dirty throttle body, restricted injectors.
Anything more than about 10 to 30 sceonds is just a waste of fuel.

Usually I just start it up, take my time to turn on the rear defrost, spray the windshield with deicer, work the shifter around a bit to get it losened up, and by then its good to go. When it snows, I'll start it before I begin clearing the snow and ice off.

Normally I start the engine, and drive off slowly within 10 seconds. Today it was in the upper 20's and the area I live I will be scraping ice every morning, until the temps drop around 20 degrees and below. I guess it is good because I have a busy hi-way I have to merge onto, so having the car warmed up for 5 minutes helps.

I know this doesn't cover the car warming up from cold but it is pretty close
the graph is of OBD sensor data for engine temp, this sample is only around 3 minutes in time and it was a 50 degree day, the engine temp started around the same temp and of course 190 is about operating temp
car was a 99 SE Sport
edit: almost forgot I let the car warm up alittle then I started driving it
as a rule i try not to get on the car real hard until the temp guage has entered the normal zone
