I assume you mean the innocents caught in the line of fire and not the families of the insurgents?

No, both sides of the war AND the innocents. Everyone that is killed has a family. They have a mother and a father. Is it any easier for the mother or father of that person to deal with the death of a loved one?
It is way to easy to paint a "We are Good, they are evil" picture, when life is RARELY that black and white. Those wishing for hell should consider there are families on both sides of the war. Hell should never be wished on anyone. Peace is the beginiing to rebuilding. And so I say again, May Peace Come Quickly...

If that family shares the same extremist belief of the US as their "soldier" and doesn't believe in democracy for Iraq then they can share the same fate IMO.

I think its safe to say based off your ideas life can't be put in black and white quite so easily (even though I disagree), good and evil can. If I supress you and give you just the basic rights such as food, water, and air, but suspend your movement to just a 1k sq room; are you still free? If I don't bother you for the rest of your life and let you live in peace, then do you have freedom? These are the first steps towards peace. But if yours foundation of freedom is built on limitations what good does peace do for anyone. Who is to say the Iraqis didn't have peace in their lives under Saddam? Some might have said they were, but when your foundation of peace is build off a shakey begining you can only go so far before it will fall and crumble from under you.
Again the issue is relative. Your freedom or peace may be different than the mass majority of a culture or class of people. This is something to keep in mind.
The thing from which the work suffers more than from any other evil is not the assertion of falsehood, but the endless and irrepressible repetition of half-truths. ? G.K. Chesterton

And do you honestly believe that everyone fighting against us truly shares those "extremist beliefs"? You don't think that some of these people have been brainwashed by those extremists. Keep in mind that people fear change, and that some of these people do not understand what a democracy would mean for Iraq. We're forcing this on them.
What would you do if some foreign government came in and took over? Think about it. Do you really believe that these people all understand what is going on? They are probably being fed lies from both sides, and I'm sure its easier to believe one of your "own people" than that of a foreign government.
Remember, our country was founded through a revolution.

I don't doubt at all that they've been fed propaganda but this doesn't differ from any conflict. All wars are simply one's judgment of the world vs. someone else's. The "brainwashed" comment is, IMO, an excuse for not killing the enemy by portraying them as naive innocents. Well that naive innocent is pointing a very large gun at people defending my freedom; brainwashed or not I'm picking the life of our soldiers against anyone else.

Wouldn't democracy for Iraq mean that they get to think what they like - even if it disagrees with your POV?
A lot of ordinary Iraqi citizens with no political agenda have an honest opinion that the coalition forces are an occupying army.
An Iraqi doesn't have to be an extremist to believe in something different than you - unless you think the 50 some odd million Americans who voted for the other candidate are also extremists.

You've got to be kidding. I think they fear rape, death, dismemberment a little more than change. They fear that the new Iraqi army has no teeth and and can't protect them from being beheaded.

I think you'd be an extremist for making that conclusion from my statement
