I'm adding an Infinity Reference 7540A 4 ch. amp and new Infinity Kappa 5X7's. Just a couple of questions:

Will upgrading to 16 ga wire instead of factory wiring make a noticeable difference in SQ?

If so, what's the best way to get from the interior of the car into the doors with new speaker wire? Any other way to do it than drilling into the door near the factory wiring harness and drilling into the car nearby? Recommendations for protecting speaker wire from damage? Any past experience here?

I'll warn you right now, running speaker wires in this car is a pain in the ass and that connector between the door and the car is the main reason for it. I've seen people drill a hole in both sides on an empty pin in the connector. I didn't do this but i'd say be VERY VERY careful not to drill out one that is needed for a connection.

Word. As for adding SQ, unless you have uber hearing, you probably won't be able to tell. And you made a smart move with the amp. An amp is a lot better than the internal power of an h/u. As for actual wiring, you won't be able to scavenge any of the wiring from the OEM stuff, so I would go with something aftermarket. 16 AWG wouldn't be too bad of a choice, sounds like you know a little bit, so I would go with it, maybe Stinger or KnuKonceptz.... it's all your choice, but I'm tired, and I wanna go sleep now, so I will check back tomorrow and see if I got the right info to you...

Ok, the only reason you won't be able to scavenge the OEM wiring is One, the connectors on the OEM stuff are much different than aftermarket speakers, I found this out when I put my Infinitys in. Two, you won't be able to use it because of the external crossover that the Kappa series incorporates. Are you going to be running this with a factory h/u, or an aftermarket? What brand? Let me know, it'll help out a lot.....

I think I've asked this before, but here it goes again. Since running bigger speaker wire is such a pain, how many watts RMS can you put through the stock speaker wiring?

I don't know, not a whole lot is my guess.... Alpine recommends a wiring kit for their V-Drive head units, and they only make ~26 watts RMS. So my guess is they are good up to about 20-25 watts.... anything else, I would go with component wiring like Knu or Stinger.
