Yes, it is adaptive.

The other thing you can do is to disconnect the sensors one by one and drive the car around to see how the symptoms change. I did that to diagnose a MAF/IAT/TPS/ECT problem, since those readings are somewhat redundant. Driving with any of those disconnected will most probably give you a MIL/CEL and of course the engine's operation will be affected, but it still can be helpful esp. with problems like yours.
