I no longer trust these magazines because you don't know what variables came into play in their tests. perhaps Valentine 1 has advertised more over the years and they want to make sure they keep that advertising revenue coming in. I'd much rather ride in someone's car who has a good detector and gather your own thoughts about it.

I bought a Cobra 9100 for about $75 around Christmas time and the thing sucks donkey balls. I'd say it catches maybe 25% of the speed traps if that. Only reason I purchased it was because Motor Trend said it was the best value in detectors under $200 and to hold me off until I had the extra loot for a V1 or Passport. It was a waste of money for the most part, the thing has more false alarms than anything else.
