The newest ones you don't even have to solder. They come on little boards that you basically fasten down using an existing screw hole inside the xbox. A monkey could do it.
And PS2's can be modified as well, however, it's a PITA. The solder points are VERY tiny. I did it for my cousin a while back and will never mod another PS2 that isn't mine, for fear of breaking it. There is another way now though, go out and get the ps2 network adapter and install a hard drive in the unit, then get something called "HD Loader." You can rip any ps2 game and store it on the hard drive. You won't be able to play those games online, but you can't play pirated games online anyway and it's alot easier than installing a chip and going through the trouble of finding/burning the games.

I wouldn't trust myself to do that personally...
I'd like one that is ready to go at my door step and then go download crazy but I can't justify the price.
