What would be the best oil for a 78,000 Contour? I was also thinking about changing the air filter with a K&N??

As did I....I have trused mobil 1 for 7 years and it has never failed me.

as for air filter, look at spmotorsports.com and ket a MAF adapter with K&N Ru-3530 filter....and make your own custom heat shield out of a small rubbermaid garbage can.

How often do you guys change your oil? Ive read that studies have shown that you dont need to change mobile 1 synthetic every 3,000 miles? And that its alright from 5,000-10,000 but with a car with some good miles on it wouldnt it still be a good idea to change it every 3,000?

I use Valoline 5w 30 with a Motorcraft oil filter.

Anyways if your looking for a cheaper alternative to synthetic, Valoline MaxLfe, cost about .40 more per quart and claims to make the engine last longer.

It's recommended at 3,000 but you can safely go up to 6,000.

If it costs more, how is it a cheaper alternative to synthetic?????? And claims mean [censored] with out the proof to back it up!!!! only proof that counts, is real world testing, because no matter if it functions in a controled enviornment, the unclontroled enviornment of the real world is what counts...from an independant sorce like(www.bobtheoilguy.com).

Well considering not everyone can fork over $4 per quart I was just tossing that out there.
Anyways people on the commericals ( I know they are paid) have said their vehicles dont smoke anymore.

Also looks who makes it Valoline, pretty good company with a good reputation.

Mobil 1 nothing wrong with it, it is just the fact several years ago they ended up buying a lot of engines they wernt planning on, because the oil was messed up.
