Sandy grit in the combustion chamber likes to stick to things. Not really a time bomb, but does give increased wear on rings, valve seats, and valve guides. IF you didn't get any in there, you'll be totally fine. That "IF" is the really big contest to do it on the car or off. To me, it's not worth the chance and I'm trying to make it not worth your chances. Did I scare anyone out of it yet?
