The stock amp puts out I believe only a dismal 15 watts / channel. It is super common to bypass the factory amp since it sucks sooo bad. Do a search in the Audio forum for bypassing the amp. The HU I ordered from Crutchfield came with a special harness to bypass the amp.

Converter? What converter? Do you mean wire harness? All you need (and really you dont need, you can splice) is a new wire harness to fit the new HU. Most HU's come with them. I used one since I want to pull the HU before I sell the car.

i had this problem and they said it was because the wire that goes from the inside of the speaker to the cone..? was broken, and basically i had to buy new speakers. probably from playing them to loud! lol, well ever since i bought the new speakers and put them in, no problems, so i knew it wasnt the wireing or the h/u... i bet you my liver its a speaker problem.

j/k about my liver...

Behind the glove box. Pull the panel under the glove box and you have access to it.
