Accept that everyone is different and treat each person you meet equally until you make an assesment of who they are and not who their "race" stereotype paints them.

..and how can you do that if a 'minority' gets diffrent treatment because he/she is a minority? Originally posted by Andy W.: Accept that everyone is different and treat each person you meet equally until you make an assesment of who they are and not who their "race" stereotype paints them.

All my life I've been the minority. I went to school that at best was 50% white. I had plenty of black, Phlip, and other Asian friends. All I said was judge people individually and not as a whole. If I see a white guy dressed like a thug I'm more vigilant of him than a black guy. Of course that can all change the first time they open their mouth. But I try to keep an open mind.
A white person can get a minority scholarship to go to an historically black school. I don't believe in affirmative action. I beileve economic status should have more to do with college money.
I also believe much of the problem with the Black community is internal and psychological. Many think whites are out to get them while in PG County alone, Black cops more often target other blacks than whites, because of the history in the area, blacks are more commonly criminals and the majority int he county.

I agree 120%. I just view AA as a crutch for individuals that do not need a crutch. College admissions, job applications, etc, IMO, should not have the 'race' or 'sex' blocks on them. If I were King, I would an electronic system that fed me applications / resumes that did not display names, race, or sex. Just qualifications...... While that is certainly a good advice for anyone. How should we as a society deal with those who fail to follow the advice?
And should we try to repair what was done to minorities in this country mere half-century ago?

What do you mean "repair"? The only thing you'll accomplish in attempting to do that is to continue to single them out as somehow being different, and I thought the idea was to stop doing that.

Sure, and repair the pain / trauma that my family went through fighting the Civil War. If this was 1890, sure, it would be a good idea, but why should someone who was not alive during that time be paid money? Should Germany pay all the descendants of the Jews? Should the Israelites be paid by the Egyptians? How far is that going to be taken? I'm just talking about mere 50 years ago. When entire block of american population were still forced on the bottom of the barrel.
And I'm not talking about some radical redistribution of wealth. Just a mere bump to kinda make up for it. Because without the racism I doubt we would have nearly as many black ghettoes today.
Oh, and WW2 veterans did get a GI Bill and VA housing. So don't tell me your or my grandparents didn't receive compensation for their troubles.

So you're talking about the treatment Japanese-Americans during WWII?

Why should I have to go to a black college to receive one of these scholarships? A black person can chose their college and use these scholarships.
