Does anyone have information / advice about code readers? For example: Are there any tests that the Rotunda Super Star can perform that other generic testers like the Autoxray 2000 can't?

With the code reader from Ford, Rotunda, call NGS (New Generation Star) you can of course read the codes. You can also activate module output to check if a component receive the informations and is not working or if the module is faulty. You can also activate component to check if module receive the information. There is a lot of more to.

Nic.

I hear the Rotunda NGS is over a thousand greenbacks. Not too realistic for the average DIY mechanic. I am looking for something on the order of $200 or less. Am I correct that the Rotunda Super Star II is not OBDII compliant?

give this a try, I just picked one up off ebay for a bit under retail. you will also need to get a palm but you can get a palm m105, thats all you really need anyway, off ebay for pretty cheap

the software pulls codes, lets you view sensor, run dyno software to get numbers, and there are a few other things like recording and freeze frame type stuff

I am going to mount the palm in my car and use it real time to watch what is going on, and to gather info, like it will tell you fuel milage and you can have it say show you timing advance at the same time

this one does some of the same things but you can't use it on all cars, just the ones that have the same protocal as Fords do
