what i mean by legit is HP at the wheels which lets be honest, thats what most of us are concerned with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dodge advertised the SRT-4 as 200+ HP and on the dyno it comes out as such. Ultimately my point was that if the GSR has 170 at the wheels, it is gonna smoke an SE and give a SVT a run for it's money

most likely it is crank....most cars are pretty accurately rated.....but there are some that are underrated from the factory such as the above mentioned srt-4 and the ls1 camaros and the 03-04 cobras......what i mean is that while there are some exceptions most cars are rated at crank hp...

The GSR is rated at the crank, like 95% of the cars on the road. The VTEC powaaa will get you. An SVT should be able to take one, key word "should". It also depends on what he has done to it. Honda motors are very similar to the SVT Duratec, not very bolt on mod friendly. They are very efficent as they are, so you won't see much out of a simple bolt on. But the VTEC engines tend to be a bit more mod friendly. I'd say the GSR "should" take the SE no doubt. They weigh in a good 300 lbs. less also.

I can't believe you just said that about a Honda motor.

If he challenges you to a race, will you do it, at the track ofcourse? Even if we say he probably will win? Or will you wimp out?

JUST DO IT.

1997 GSR Is Supposed To Be Rated At 180 Hp..
VTEC Kicks In At Or Around 5300 RPM With A Rdline Of 7800..
The GSR Is The DOHC VTEC Which Is Super Mod Friendly And With Headers Exhaust Intake And Decent Clutch Life Left In It WILL Beat An Svt...i.e. Lighter, rev happy, etc..
Bone Stock It can hang with The SVT but will get beat out by a carlength in the 1/4...With mods it will eat you alive with a BAD driver! EMIN: Run It And See...By The Way, is it auto or stick??

no vtec motor is mod friendly when it comes down to it.

in fact, they do a mod vs power thing in one of the import mags.

full exhaust and a cai on a civic netting 15whp, but lost some amount of torque.

they threw the same mods on a SE-R, and gained power thru the band.

yes I know the b18c1 is presently a better motor for modding but still.

you can slap a full exhaust and a cai on a civic si, and still have to drive the CRAP out of the car to beat a stock Celica GT-S.

its a whole 20 crank hp difference, yet with those mods the civic will struggle to beat it.

I've ridden in a friend's hatch with a gsr engine, seemed pretty mod friendly to me.

The Ability To Turn 8K RPM's is the reason the cars will pull on us...when running at ...the track....sniff, sniff....the b18c1 will still be in the top of second gear pulling when our svt's are nearing the middle of third before the secondaries are openned up again. Plus Power To Weight ratio is in favor of a slightly modded GSR. This All teking into account its a five speed...and Lets not even get started about the J-spec stuff, where most of their counterparts come with a limited slip unit, higher flowing intake and exhaust manifolds and ecu that is tuned for the Japanese everyday 101 octane...

Plus you are comparing a SOHC Vtec "B18b?" Civic Si. with the more powerful acura/honda B18c1. Thats Why the net gain in HP and Tq Is Lower Across The Board when you throw the CAI, Headers and Exhaust at it. And Nissan's Pathetic Vq25 motor in the sentra s-er are the worst of all. Every customer that owns one and does any spirited driving in that car will have the motor replaced due to oil starvation problems on a grander scale than we experience with the duratec. However they are relatively mod happy but without a lot of support until NISMO was authorized to have factory support in the u.s..
