I am a very comfused individual now. I drive a 1999 Mercury Mystique GS. The engine is the exact same as my friends ZX2, which is thought to be a Zetec engine. However neither one of us has Zetec printed on the engine. Also I have never heard of anyone talking about a VCT engine on these forums. So I'm confused. Is it Zetec or what? A stupid question that most of you will laugh at but I have to know.

Your engine is a Zetec. The ZX2 did use Zetec as well (not sure if they had other engines). VCT or Variable Cam Timing is primarily an emmisions feature that deleats the EGR (nice), added to the Focus Zetec engine (not sure if 2000 Contour Zetecs got it as well)..

No, the Focus didn't get the VCT. The ZX2 did, and 98 - 00 Contours did. The SVT Focus will have VCT on the intake cam to make mo crazee powa.

You can also get an Escape w/ the Zetec engine.

Perry...Every Focus I've seen has VCT.

Justa little clarification for this subject ,the 98-00 zetec contour and all the zx2's had VCT on the *exhaust cam* and no egr system for better emmsions purposes, the Focus has VCT on the *intake Cam* and not the exhaust cam, hence it has an EGR system.
