What are the differences between a Contour LX Sport and a Contour GL Sport? I want to know this, because I own a '96 Contour, but i don't know if it's a LX Sport or a GL Sport. I don't have anything in the book or at the back of the trunk saying what it is, it's just wrote "Ford Contour Sport". One thing I know is that it's not a SE, because they're only made using 6 cylinders motors and mine is a 4 cylinders.

Um, not sure the exact differences between the GL and LX, but pretty much the GL is the base model. Lowest grade I guess you could say.
The LX is one step higher, in luxury and such so therefore possibly...leather seats, sunroof, power locks/windows standard...though I could be wrong

thanks ContouR CreW, but doesn't anybody knows where I could find some sort of a list showing the specs of a GL and/or a LX?

When the 98/98.5 changover occurred, the GL was no more. They changed it to just the LX and the SE, and of course, the SVT. I have a "rare" 98.5 GL since mine was in the factory while this was being transitioned.

leather and roof was not standard on any model..except leather in the SVT.
95 V6 5SPD.
Shaved bumpers,antenna,trunk lock and 1/4 extensions

look for old brochures on ebay..I saw a few yesterday. The SE model changed in 98 and screwed up the whole "easy to recognize" look of the pre 98's. The pre 98 was a given...alloy wheels..V6, rear spoiler and power accessories. I couldnt believe how crappy they made post 98 SE's ..hubcaps and 4 bangers standard. Yea they had the SVT..but for lower models it was a laugh trying to keep things straight

exactly... everyone ran around screaming 4 banger! but it was fully loaded except for traction control, and alloy wheels...

I got one of the "tweeners". 1999 SE according to the build sheet, and vin decoder, and other thingies, but the Ford web site tells me I have an LX. I don't care, the springs are nice & firm, she handles well, & is lots of fun.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
