More importantly than when you shift is how you shift, which affects wear on your drivetrain components.

To an extent.

I shift between 3250-3500 during normal driving. I noticed someone said they shift at 2000?! That's a little extreme IMO. There's no power at 1000 rpm to pull you. It seems a little taxing on the engine IMO also. Midrange really doesn't feel that great to me so I don't like to go WOT until around 4k or when the secondaries open up. I just like to slowly build up then let it go. I'm addicted to WOT bursts on to the freeway until 3rd also. I'll drop down into 2nd and 40mph, 3rd at 60mph, and well I won't mention anything above the speed limits. A downshift into 1st is still not among my habits. With that gear, you better have rev matching down or else you and your drivetrain are getting some whiplash.
