Hmm. Seems like people's shifting preferences are all over the place.

It really depends on your driving style, its not "right" or "wrong" to hold a certain RPM, skip gears, or not skip gears, etc.

Myself I tend to shift between 3500 and 5000 RPM in most traffic situations including merging onto the xpressway. Crusing through town I stay in 4th or 5th depending on speed/traffic, and downshift to 2nd or 3rd for most corners.

More importantly than when you shift is how you shift, which affects wear on your drivetrain components.
