I'm not sure what you mean about the pistons championships and changing the game? I would have to say the showtime lakers celtics classics of the 80's along with Michael Jordan transformed the NBA not the pistons. When someone is truly a fan of a sport and not just of a team, they have a better understanding of that sports overall history and can understand the significance behind the red sox. If someone is more of a casual fan that just follows their team, they miss out on a lot. another big sports story of the past 25 years was the New York Rangers winning it all, very similar to the Red Sox but not as much because of hockey's limited popularity.
