Life Long Sox Fan here.
Its been interesting to hear all these viewpoints.
First, we're not all nearly as annoying at DJ CApp over here, so by no means paint a picture of Sox fans that way.
Next, hats off to the Card's and their fans. Class act over there. A number of Sox's fans at the game reported that Cards fans said things like "Congrats" and "You guys deserved and earned it." Its great to see that in this day and age. Yankees fans could take a lesson from them
Alot of you are right, from a Non-Red Sox fan point of view, this World Series wasn't nearly as exciting as the Sox-Yankees ALCS. However, the exact same thing is said for last year's ALCS and World Series. You just can't beat that rivalry in sports. No matter how hard you try.
DJ, how can you not mention the Patriots 1st Super Bowl as one of the biggest stories in the last 25 years. Think about the story. You've got the whole Brady/Bledsoe thing, Bill Belichick turns the team around in 1 year from 5-11 to 11-5 Super Bowl Champs. That was a pretty big story too.
Ofcourse this game is incredible for Sox fans around the globe. I was in Kenmore Square last night (That's where Fenway Park is located for those that don't know) [Fenway Park is the home of the Red Sox for those without a pulse], and it was incredible. The city was truly alive throughout the night.
Much like the Patriots, this was a TEAM EFFORT. Not one guy can be singled out on this team as MVP. Its incredible that a group of individuals (and they are all individuals) can really come together and work as a Team. There isn't one guy on this team that was fighting for everyone else on the team! (Basketball could use this advice).
You would think that living through years of close calls and big flops would have prepared us for let down, but every year fans Truly Believe! That's what this was all about, BELIEVE and KEEP THE FAITH!
