Red sox win the world series

Miracle on Ice
US gets ass kicked in Olympic basketball

When you start intertwining sports with world events and "stories" it gets more interesting

Dale Earnhardt's death
Lance Armstrong

What else guys???

are you referring to only in US?
cuz there have been some soccer games that the whole world has practically stood still for. without a doubt, soccer is THE most popular sport in the world. theyre already talking about pulling baseball out of the next Olympics (and for good) cuz only a few countries play it, most of them over here in our little baseball world (US, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican, and few other island nations.) the only country that really plays baseball anywhere else in the world is Japan and Australia somewhat.

*ps cycling may not be that "popular" in the US but nearly all of western europe was tuned in to Tour de France to see if Lance Armstrong (the American) would win again. boy, they sure do hate it when we win just about everything.
